About Dave

I'm Dave Sampson. I photograph weddings across Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays — Hayman, Daydream, Hamilton, Whitehaven, Villa Botanica, Coral Sea, Paradise Cove, the lot.

Most luxury wedding photography sounds the same. Mine doesn't. The photos are quiet, considered, and built to last. The day itself runs calmly, because I've done this enough times to know where and when the ferries leave from, how the light moves on Whitehaven at 3pm, and which venues handle rain well.

You don't need to perform. You don't need to know your angles. You don't need to fill a hard drive with five hundred near-identical shots. You need someone who shows up early, reads the room, gets the photos that matter, and leaves you alone for the rest of it.

That's the whole job.

What I Photograph in the Whitsundays

Airlie Beach wedding photography

Mainland weddings at Coral Sea Resort, Freedom Shores, Villa Botanica and the venues across Cannonvale. Airlie has the easiest logistics in the region, which means more time for the photos that actually matter and less time troubleshooting transport.

Hayman Island wedding photography

Full-day coverage for InterContinental Hayman Island Resort weddings. I know the ferry schedules, the best light windows on the beach versus the pool deck, and how to assist with a timeline that gives you actual time with your guests instead of a forced march between locations.

Whitehaven Beach elopement photography

Boat-access ceremonies and elopements on the whitest sand in Australia. I coordinate with the charter operators, plan around tide and light, and shoot fast and quiet so you get the place to yourselves while we're there.

Island and destination weddings

Daydream, Hamilton, Long Island, Paradise Cove, Earlando, The Creek. Each island has its own light, weather pattern and logistical quirks. I know them.

Intimate weddings and second weddings

Smaller days deserve the same care. Whether it's twelve guests or two, the photography brief is the same: get out of the way, get the photos that matter, leave you with images worth printing.

What It's Like to Work With Me

1. The first conversation.

You enquire. I reply within a day, usually faster. We have a real conversation about your day, not a sales call. You'll know within ten minutes whether we're a fit.

2. Planning the day.

Once you book, I build a timeline around the light, the venue, and the day you actually want. I'll flag the things most couples don't think about until it's too late, golden hour on Whitehaven, the ferry from Hayman, how long family photos really take.

3. The wedding.

I show up early. I'm calm. I don't hijack the day, run a roll-call, or stack you against forty Pinterest setups. I get the photos. You get your day back.

4. The photos.

You get same day sneak peeks & a private gallery within four weeks. Photos chosen carefully, the ones worth printing. Albums and prints available if you want them.

Common Questions

How much does a wedding photographer cost in the Whitsundays?

Full pricing is sent on enquiry, but to save you the back-and-forth: my wedding collections start at $3600. Elopement coverage starts at $1200. I work with around 20 couples a year, so availability is the bigger question than budget for most enquiries.

Do you travel to the islands?

Yes. Hayman, Daydream,  Long Island, all standard. Ferry and small-craft logistics are built into the planning. No surprise surcharges.

What if the weather turns?

I plan for it. Every Whitsundays photographer who tells you the weather is "almost always perfect" is selling. I'll have a wet-weather plan ready before your day, built around your specific venue. Rain photos can be the best photos. I'll show you.

We're local to North Queensland. Are we still your kind of couple?

Yes. About half the couples I work with live within a few hours of Airlie Beach. The brief doesn't change, calm day, considered photos, no fuss. Local doesn't mean lower expectations, and it doesn't mean a different price tier. Same work, same approach.

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book six to twelve months out. Peak season (May–October) often books further ahead. If your date is close, ask anyway, sometimes things shift.

Can you provide entertainment too?

I'm a partner in Whitsunday Entertainment, which means a live musician or DJ for your ceremony and reception can be coordinated through me directly, we also have cold sparks and dry ice to really make your day magical. Same brief, same calm approach, one less vendor to chase.

The dates that book first are May, June, September and October. If you've got one of those in mind, get the enquiry in early.
